National Food and Drug Administration issued regulations to remove plasticizers

The State Food and Drug Administration recently issued a notice requesting that in the formulation of health foods containing phthalate ester plasticizers, phthalate esters should be removed or used as an alternative to the relevant regulations.

The notice states that health food formulas can use triethyl citrate, triacetin or other substances that comply with the relevant regulations to replace phthalates, or apply for the removal of phthalates from formulas.

Previously, the Ministry of Health had included phthalates as blacklists of prohibited foods. The State Food and Drug Administration also stopped production and sales of phthalate-containing health foods in formulas last month.

According to China's relevant regulations, there are still three kinds of phthalate esters that can be used in the field of pharmaceutical excipients. These three substances are dimethyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate and dibutyl phthalate, which are mainly used as auxiliary materials in the production of drugs, and are mostly used for tablet coating, capsules and the like.
