[Distribution and damage] Sweet potato purple feather disease, mainly distributed in Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei, Henan and other places. It is caused by Helicobasidium urpureum (Tul.) Pat. In addition to damaging sweet potatoes, it also infects crops such as potato, cotton, soybean, peanut, apple, pear and peach.
[Symptoms] Infect root system, potato block. The roots began to develop from the tip, gradually developed upwards, and finally died. The diseased tubers and potatoes turned to white cottony rhizomorphs, which turned to pink or brown, and finally turned into a purple-brown color. The sclerotin of the mesh was densely attached to the surface of the tuber and was easily peeled off. The diseased potato meat gradually rots from the bottom to the top and emits odor smell. The potato skin is tough with the pellicle and the diseased tuber finally becomes hollow shell.
[Implications] The pathogen is mycelia, mycelia, and sclerotia that are attached to the epidermis of the seed potato and the soil is overwintering. It is the primary source of infestation. Propagation spreads close to rainwater, irrigation streams, fertilisers and diseased bodies. Rainy, wet years in autumn have become more severe. [Control methods] First, the diseased plants in the field were promptly eradicated together with diseased soil, and then formalin or lime water was used for disinfection. At harvest, diseased plant residues are burned or buried deeply. Second, serious disease fields and gramineous crops are subject to more than 3 years of rotation.
