EU extends Japanese food import restrictions

According to the “Yomiuri Shimbun, Japan” report, the European Commission of the EU’s executive body announced on the 28th that 27 EU member states have extended their import restrictions on food and feed products from Japan to the end of October 2012. In March 2011, following the nuclear accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, the EU immediately imposed import restrictions on foods and feeds produced in Japan, although in November 2011 the EU passed the import restriction measures to the end of March 2012. However, in order to ensure EU food safety, the EU decided to extend the ban again.

In addition, the EU continues to implement measures to attach radioactive material inspection certificates to export products in 11 Japanese administrative counties including Tokyo.
