How to domesticize Sansevieria

The tiger-tailed orchid is also known as the tiger-piran, and the thousand-year-old orchid, and is a perennial herbaceous foliage plant of the Lilium davidiani.

There are rhizomes in the basement of Sansevieria, without stems. Leaves clustered, fleshy-linear-lanceolate, hard-leaved, erect, slightly sulcused at base; dark green, with pale green and dark green lateral stripes on both sides. Commonly cultivated varieties are: Phnom Penh Hibiscus: It resembles a tiger-eared orchid but has a golden-yellow broad-leafed band.

Short-eared tiger-tailed orchid: a dwarf species with a plant height of about 10–20 cm, a mutant species of Phnom Penh’s tiger blue orchid, with short and wide leaves and a roundabout overlapping growth.

Onion leaf tiger-tailed orchid: also known as sage orchid. The leaves are cylindrical, the whole leaf is roughly the same in thickness, and the ends are slightly tapered. The leaves have a shallow groove that runs vertically and each leaf grows independently.

Sansevieria native to ten droughts in Africa and southern Asia, are cultivated throughout China. It is adaptable, warm and moist, resistant to drought, hi light and shade. The demand for soil is not strict, and sandy loam with good drainage is preferable. Its optimum growth temperature is 20-30°C, and the wintering temperature is 10°C.

Sansevieria can be propagated using ramets and cuttings. Every spring, when the temperature rises in spring, the ramets are changed in combination with the change basin. The entire plant will be taken out of the pot, the old culture soil will be removed, the rhizomes will be exposed, and several plants will be cut along the way so that each plant contains at least 3-4 mature leaves. Then use the new cultivation soil pots. The cutting propagation material is leaf (ie, leaf plug) and can be carried out at a temperature of 15°C or more. The mature leaves were cut into 7-8 cm long segments and used as a cutting, dried briefly and inserted into the river sand. Be careful not to insert the cuttings when cutting; keep a certain humidity, but not too wet, so as not to rot. About a month or so, adventitious buds and adventitious roots can emerge from the cuts and grow into new plants. Phnom Penh and variegated varieties using leaf propagation of seedlings for the green seedlings, Phnom Penh and spot Xiaoling disappeared, reducing the ornamental value, so these varieties should not use the leaf propagation, can only be used to reproduce.

Potted orchid plants can be mixed with rot leaf and garden soil in equal amounts and add a small amount of mature basal fertilizer as a substrate. It grows well under well-lighted conditions. Except for midsummer, it must avoid direct sunlight. Other seasons should receive more sunlight. If it is too dark in the room, the leaves will be dark and lack vitality. In addition, if placed in a room for a long period of time, it should not be suddenly moved directly to the sun. It should be moved to a place where the light is better, so that it can see the sun after the adjustment process to avoid burning the leaves. Watering should be appropriate, to grasp the principle of never drying wet. Usually wipe the leaf dust with clean water to keep the blades clean and bright. When the new plants are sprouted at the root neck in spring, they should be properly watered to keep the pots moist. During the high temperature season in summer, the pots should be kept moist. After the end of the fall, the amount of water should be controlled and the pots and soils should be kept relatively dry to enhance the cold resistance. It does not require high levels of fertilizer, and applies 1-2 thin liquid fertilizers each month during the growing season to ensure that the leaves are green and thick.

The leaves of the tiger-tailed orchid are firm and upright, and the leaves are grayish and dark green with tiger-tailed stripes. The posture is fortitude and is very interesting. It has many varieties, large changes in plant shape and leaf color, and exquisitely chic; its adaptability to the environment. Strong, it is a gritty plant, widely used for cultivation, and it is a common home-plant potted foliage plant. It is suitable for decorating study rooms, living rooms, and office refreshing places for longer enjoyment.
