Potato Storage Management

Production practice proves: During the storage of potatoes, we must pay attention to control the temperature and humidity in the cellar. Cellar temperature to 1 ~ 3 °C is appropriate. Relative humidity is about 80% to 90%, which is the most suitable environment for potato storage. If you use an old cellar to store potatoes, you must first clean the cellar and clean up the remaining material left over from the previous year before entering the pit. If conditions permit, they must be disinfected with 20% lime water or 15% copper sulfate solution before entering the pit. In order to control and regulate the temperature and humidity in the pit, the loss of potatoes is minimized. After entering the pit, it can be divided into three periods for management. Pre-storage: From the entrance to the beginning of December, the potatoes are in a state of dormancy, breathing vigorously, exothermic and high in the cellar. Management at this stage should be based on cooling and heat protection. From October to November, the cellar doors should be kept airy and ventilated as much as possible. Into the November to cover the air, and later as the temperature decreases, cellar vents and vents should be opened during the day to close at night or small open. If the cellar temperature is too high, the stack can be cooled. After mid-November, the cellar door is completely covered. The temperature in the cellar is maintained at 1 to 3°C. If the cellar temperature is higher than 3°C, the cellar door must be opened to dissipate heat. Mid-term storage: From December to the end of February, it was winter and the potatoes turned from dormancy to dormancy, reducing the amount of heat. During this period, the main purpose is to prevent frost and heat. To seal the pits and vents, keep the upper part of the potatoes to the cellar cover to maintain a gap of 100 cm to avoid freezing. When the temperature in the pit drops to 1 °C, cover the moisturizer and press the soil 10 cm; Cover corn leaves, still can not keep the cellar temperature, corn leaves covered with plastic sheeting, cloth and then cover the corn leaves, but the plastic sheeting can not be directly covered in potatoes, so as to avoid moisture due to moisture of potatoes; cellar cover best temperature insulation, Remove snow in the spring; also prevent ground cracks into the wind and freeze. If necessary, a layer of grass curtains can be placed on top of the potatoes, which not only protects against moisture, but also blocks the top of the water from falling on the potatoes and causing decay. End of Storage: From March to April, the temperature is getting warmer and the potatoes are vulnerable to heat, causing sprouts to rot. Remove the pit cover in time. This stage of management, mainly to maintain the low temperature in the cellar, do not let the outside world affect the temperature of the cellar, the temperature rose to 2 ~ 3 °C during the day, open the cellar door, ventilation, to prevent freezing. When the cellar temperature is too high, the cellar can be opened at night to cool down, and the cellar can also be cooled. China Agricultural Network Editor
