The role of forsythia

1. Anti-pathogenic microorganisms

Forsythia inhibited a variety of Gram-positive and negative bacteria. Its concentrated decoction can inhibit typhoid bacillus, paratyphoid bacillus, Escherichia coli, dysentery bacillus, diphtheria bacilli and vibrio cholera, staphylococcus, streptococcus in vitro. The antibacterial effect of forsythia in vitro is similar to that of honeysuckle; it is the main antibacterial component of Yinqiao San. The inhibitory effect of honeysuckle on Salmonella, especially typhoid bacillus and hemolytic streptococcus was similar to that of Forsythia suspense, while the inhibition of Shigella and Staphylococcus aureus was better. The combination of the two, there is no synergy in the test tube, and the combination of Coptis, Astragalus composition, in vitro antibacterial effect than when forsythia alone was strong. It has been reported that forsythia phenol is its antibacterial active ingredient. The antibacterial concentration of forsythiaquinone in test tubes against Staphylococcus aureus was 1:5 120; for Shigella was 1:1 280; for diphtheria bacilli and paratyphoid (A) bacilli was 1:640. In vitro experiments showed that the alcohol extract of Forsythia suspensa had anti-Leptospira effect, its strength was lower than that of Coptis chinensis, litchi or honeysuckle, and yellow peony, but similar to that of Cork and Loquat. In vitro tests of chicken embryos have shown that forsythia has inhibitory effects on Asian influenza A virus and rhinovirus-17. The volatile oil of Forsythia suspensa has significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus in vitro, and it also significantly inhibits the coagulation of plasma coagulation enzyme by Staphylococcus aureus. It can significantly reduce Staphylococcus aureus infection in rabbit blood. Forsythia scouring agent (1:5) has some inhibition of Nocardia star in vitro.

2. Anti-inflammatory effect

50% forsythia alcohol extract aqueous solution 20ml/kg intraperitoneal injection, the croton oil granulocyst in rats has a very significant anti-bleeding effect and reduce the inflammation of the micro-vascular wall brittleness. Forsythia can promote the formation of inflammatory barriers. 300% forsythia injection 30 ~ 40g/kg intraperitoneal injection, the rats have obvious inhibition of egg white swollen feet; also promote phagocytosis of inflammatory cells in mice.

3. Antipyretic effect

Forsythia decoction or compound forsythia injection has a cooling effect on the body temperature of artificial fever animals and normal animals.

4. Effects on the cardiovascular system

The oleanolic acid contained in the forsythia husk has a slight cardiac effect. Animal experiments show that: Forsythia has antihypertensive effect. General blood pressure can be reduced to 40% to 60% of the original level. Its buck characteristics are rapid and significant. Short duration, multiple injections without rapid tolerance. No significant changes in respiration when blood pressure is reduced. For adult cats with endotoxin-induced hypotonia due to typhoid fever, intravenous injection of 300% forsythia injection (10g/kg) can be preceded by a brief decompression, followed by a significant increase in pressure. Its anti-endotoxic shock may be related to its expansion of blood vessels, increased cardiac output and improved microcirculation. The rutin contained in it can increase the density of capillaries, so it has a hemostatic effect on capillary bleeding and subcutaneous hemorrhage.

5. Liver protection

1:1 forsythia water decoction can significantly reduce liver degeneration and necrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride, and restore hepatic glycogen and ribonucleic acid accumulated in hepatocytes. Most of them are normal and serum alanine aminotransferase. From 337±63.5 units to 146.5±11.1 units. Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are effective components of F. suspensa anti-hepatic injury, both of which can reduce serum alanine aminotransferase in animals with experimental hepatic injury.

6. Other effects

Forsythia can inhibit the emetic effect of digitalis on pigeon vein injection, reduce the number of vomiting, but does not change the incubation period of vomiting, its antiemetic effect is similar to the effect of two hours after the injection of chlorpromazine. It can inhibit the vomiting caused by subcutaneous injection of apomorphine in dogs, so it is speculated that the principle of the antiemetic effect may be to inhibit the emetic bronchogenic zone. Forsythia injection has a significant and definite diuretic effect on intravenous injection of anesthetized dogs. Oleanolic acid has a slight diuretic effect. Forsythia decoction significantly inhibited phosphodiesterase.
